How to structure a short film

A short film is different from a feature film because it needs a beginning, a middle and an end.

Should be around 4-10 minutes
A feature film is classified as a film over 30 minutes long

Plot
Not a complete plot
Beginning, middle and an end. There should be no lead up to story. It should go straight into the action
Characters - Who are they? What is their problem? How will the audience recognise this?
Think of a world a character and a problem

Overall
Many short films can be made into a long film
Keep it simple

Research
Use existing short films for inspiration, not only for the plot but for the structure of the film too
